Last week it was announced that Prime Minister David Cameron was set to hand hundreds of millions of pounds of taxpayers’ money – my money and your money - to Pakistan to make amends for offending the Muslim nation last year. In fact the Prime Minister pledged to invest £650m into Pakistani schools at a time when the education budget at home is being slashed. Has he not heard of the student unrest over tuition fees? He is responsible for stopping all remedial work in schools throughout the UK. Does charity beginning at home no longer apply?

Pakistan allocates only 1.5% of its Gross Domestic Product to education. £650m represents about £10.65 to every man, woman and child within the UK.

Mr. Cameron appears to have a cavalier attitude in the way he administers money obtained from me and other tax-payers. I doubt he manages the finances in his household with the same casual manner!
It’s time to review the UK foreign aid budget at a time when we are constantly being told to tighten our belts and prepare for the bumpy ride ahead. Some of us may have to work into our seventies to pay off the current national debt burden. Enough is enough...
